It was early March, and a picture was circling around the internet and raising hell in every fashion enthusiast’s group chats. It was a shot of front-row attendees at Chloé’s Fall 2024 show, all wearing sky-high cork wedges with black criss-cross uppers and slingback straps. It felt as if the boho movement itself hired the world’s best PR strategist to send a bat signal to the entirety of the style scene saying “boho is back.”

While the runways have led the rise of the boho resurgence—with the aforementioned Chloé collection leading the way—celebrities and red carpets have confirmed that boho-chic is, indeed, chic once again. Seen on the likes of A-List celebs like Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, the nostalgic trend is conducting its comeback through a range of patchwork denim, studded clogs, and flowing, chiffon dresses—though, not in the 2005 Olsens-inspired way you’re probably thinking. Instead, fashion houses are reviving this ’70s-style movement through a pared-back lens, void of the feather earrings and lace headbands we sported in the late aughts.

This season’s take on boho styling is a stark contrast to the groovy combos of the past, with designers debuting streams of free-flowing tops and high-waisted jeans unaccompanied by the usual kitschy add-ons that boho is synonymous with. While we once would have sported boho with a more is more attitude, this time around, the trend is encouraging participants to keep things simple with fewer layers and accessories. Put simply, you can leave your coin-buckled belt and excessively-slouched boots at home this time around.

Here’s how to achieve the Chloé-esque boho look this fall without breaking the bank.

Billowy Blouses

Talk about a top that does all of the work for you. Styled with gold hoops and high-waisted jeans, these tops will deliver you a prize-worthy boho ensemble. And for those of you who have been advised that tucking is a thing of the past, let me assure you this look is a lot more chic with a simple front tuck and a statement-making belt.

Bootcut Jeans

I’d like to think that back in 2010, everyone was jealous of my bootcut jeans from Express (you know the ones). Looking back, I’d say that probably wasn’t the case; however, what I do know is that, no matter the decade, there’s no better ego-boost than slipping into a pair of body-hugging kick-flare jeans. To atone for my past mistakes, I’ll be styling these in a more laid-back way this fall with a pair of pointed-toe boots and a faux-leather blazer.

Studded Clogs

I’m looking forward to modernizing retro, studded clog silhouettes with cuffed denim and a crisp button-down for fall 2024. As someone who can be a bit boho-averse, it’s a much more approachable introduction to the mystical trend.

Tiered Dresses

When it comes to this year’s trending moto and knee-high boots, a boho-style dress makes for the perfect companion. On the days when I can’t bear to throw on another pair of jeans, I call on my favorite unexpected pairing: edgy boots and frilly dresses. Not only does the combo lean more fashion forward—it also provides comfort during jeans season.

Suede Bags

Though a suede bag for fall is nothing new, boho enthusiasts are styling the cold-weather staple with more Western-infused looks. From oversized shoulder bags to micro top-handles, suede is taking on new forms for the upcoming season. And while they’re normally cost a pretty penny, brands like Madewell and J.Crew are offering us an array of more affordable options this fall.

Fringe Skirts

Now, I know what you’re thinking: that dance costume you once had many moons ago is surely not making a comeback. And that’s partially correct. While we aren’t seeing a return of stringy, chainette fringe, we are witnessing a return of fringe-finished hemlines in leather and suede. Trend-goers are wearing these in the place of standard slip skirts paired with micro heels and button-downs.

Pendant Necklaces

I can’t remember the last time I wore a pendant necklace, but after I put one on for the first time in years a few weeks ago, I instantly remembered why long chains used to be so beloved in my jewelry box. Boho stans are wearing the statement piece with tunic-length tops and flouncy dresses—although my styling of choice would be a crewneck tee and an oversized blazer.
